NAVIGATION CADETS-CUM-SECOND OFFICERS - GRADUATE IN AN AUSPICIOUS CEREMONY

NAVIGATION CADETS-CUM-SECOND OFFICERS

In July 2022, the Navigation cadets attended their Phase 5 training at CINEC, including IMO short Courses and simulation training. They were also groomed with a deck officer preparatory course, a prerequisite to attempt their oral to obtain their Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency.

The ten (10) Cadets attempted their Oral exams at the SMSA in September 2023 which was conducted virtually by Captain Upul Peiris; Director - Navigation, Merchant Shipping Secretariat, Sri Lanka, with SMSA Examiner Capt. Mark Hoareau. Nine (9) Cadets successfully passed their Oral exam, making them eligible to receive their CoC under the auspice of the Seychelles flag.

However, faced with new requirements eight (8) Cadets returned in Sri Lanka in order to complete 4 additional short courses – Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations, Advanced Training for Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations, Proficiency in Medical Care and Bridge Resource Management.  

They spent 1.5 months at CINEC with the first course commencing on 1st January 2024. They received their Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) from the Ministry of Ports & Shipping, Sri Lanka, in April 2024.

Following that, nine (9) Cadets officially received their Certificate of Competency as Officer of The Watch, in a convocation, which was held at the MTSC Auditorium - Coast Guard, Mahé, on Thursday 2nd May 2024.

Four (4) Cadets were applauded for receiving special awards for their high academic achievements for Phase 5 training, from the Seychelles cohort. They are:

      • 1st Place Hamza Charlot
      • 2nd Pace Martin Roucou
      • 3rd Place Dwayne Freminot and Sandrick Songoire

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, the Designated Minister & Minister of Fisheries and the Blue Economy – Mr. Jean-Francois Ferrari, the Minister for Education – Dr. Justin Valentin, Minister for Employment – Ms. Patricia Francourt, CEO of SEYPEC – Mrs Sarah Romain, SEYPEC and ANHRD Officers,  their parents/partners, Representatives from SMSA and SMA.

The first  to join vessel and  serving as Officer was Brad Andre who joined MT. Seychelles Progress on 5th May 2024 for a 5 months contract. The others will follow suit in the coming days joining either a SEYPEC or GTS tanker.
