Independent Tests Find No Measurable Ethanol in SEYPEC Motor Gasoline RON 95 (Petrol) cargoes

All motor gasoline supplied by Seychelles Petroleum Company Ltd. (SEYPEC) is required to contain no ethanol, and every imported cargo is subject to quality testing and verification to ensure it meets this requirement. The May 2026 cargo, which is the current batch being distributed on the local market, provides the most recent test results, with independent analysis finding no measurable ethanol in the fuel.

SEYPEC wishes to clarify that the specifications for motor gasoline that it sells to its customers require that the product contains no ethanol. All motor gasoline cargoes imported by SEYPEC are required to comply with SEYPEC’s applicable product specifications, which have been derived from international norms and tailored to our local market, and these cargoes are subject to stringent quality testing and stages of verification.

All cargoes imported by SEYPEC are subject to quality testing and are confirmed to meet the applicable product specifications. SEYPEC uses independent overseas laboratories, including Gulf Baltic Marine (K) Ltd and SGS (Mauritius) Ltd, as part of its quality assurance and verification process.

The May 2026 cargo is the current batch being distributed on the local market. As part of SEYPEC’s quality assurance process, the fuel is tested at the loading stage. Once the cargo arrives, the fuel is sealed in a tank and a further sample is taken for testing. The results from both tests are then compared before the fuel is distributed to the public. The May 2026 cargo was independently tested on 18 May 2026 by Gulf Baltic Marine (K) Ltd in Mombasa, Kenya, with the test results recording an ethanol content of less than 0.20 per cent (0.20%) by volume.

Independent laboratory testing of the May 2026 cargo, using the internationally recognised ASTM D4815 method to test for oxygenates in gasoline by Gas Chromatography, found no measurable ethanol in the motor gasoline.

The laboratory result is reported as “<0.20%”. This does not mean that the fuel contains 0.20% ethanol. It means that ethanol was not detected at a level that the testing method could reliably measure and report. If any ethanol is present, it would be below the level that the method can measure.

From a practical quality-control perspective, the fuel is consistent with SEYPEC’s specification, as no measurable ethanol was detected using the laboratory testing method.

This is significantly different from fuels such as E10 and E15. E10 contains approximately 10 percent (10%) ethanol, while E15 contains approximately 15 percent (15%). The May 2026 cargo, by comparison, tested below 0.20  percent (0.20%). The laboratory results for the May 2026 cargo, as well as for all consignments of Motor Gasoline RON 95 imported by Seypec therefore do not support claims that the petrol currently being supplied by SEYPEC is E10 or E15.
